HISTORY OF FLOREANA

Floreana Island, one of the oldest in the Galapagos archipelago, has a rich history dating back to the first explorers and settlers who arrived in the 19th century. Known for its unique biodiversity and black and green sand beaches, Floreana has witnessed numerous tales of pirates, whalers and exiles. Today, the island is home to a small community of approximately 150 people who make a living from artisanal fishing and sustainable tourism. The inhabitants of Floreana lead a quiet life in harmony with nature, taking advantage of local resources and actively participating in the conservation of their environment.

Post Office

The Post Office barrel is an important part of the history of Floreana Island in the Galapagos Islands. Originally used as a mail exchange point for sailors, it became a symbol of communication and solidarity among the island's inhabitants. The original location of the Post Office barrel has become a historic and tourist site, with visitors dropping off and picking up postcards from around the world in the bay of the same name.

Additionally, there is a replica of the barrel in the community of Floreana, which serves as a reminder of the importance of communication and connection between people, both in the past and today. The Post Office barrel represents a unique link between the history and community of the Galapagos Islands.

This center has facilitated agreements with tour operators, ensuring that visitor groups equitably consume the various tourist products and services available on the island. By working together, Floreana residents have managed to strengthen their economy and preserve their way of life, while providing visitors with an authentic and sustainable experience.

How can I begin to describe my time with Poveda... It was simply life-changing! I always imagined that Bali would be a breathtaking destination, but thanks to Poveda, I was able to not just experience the culture, but have once-in-a-lifetime memories. I got so much more than I ever anticipated from my holiday.
